In Australia around 450,000 children under the age of 17 years have severe attention difficulties. Global estimates suggest that worldwide some 136 million children experience clinical attention difficulties. The TALI Train program was created as early intervention to help improve attention in children with attention difficulties and attention disorders like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Attention difficulties can compromise a child’s education, social skills, relationships, mental health, and employment opportunities. Children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at heightened risk of experiencing attention deficits and their associated negative impacts. Other typically developing children experience attention difficulties early in life and don’t receive help until their later years.
Currently, treatment options are sparse, with the most common being psychostimulant medication. These drug based interventions often focus on improving symptoms rather than treating underlying causes of attention problems. Current non-pharmaceutical interventions often require multiple clinical appointments across many locations which are expensive and time consuming. In some cases medication cannot be prescribed due to a child’s age or condition. Early intervention is vital.
TALI Train is a ground-breaking game-based training early intervention program for young children, designed by a team of neuroscientists at Monash University. The program represents the culmination of over 25 years of research in developmental psychology and cognitive neuroscience.
The program has been proven to build a child’s 4 core attention skills by strengthening underlying attentional processes. The TALI Train game is played 20 minutes a day for 5 weeks. Improvements were retained up to 6 months after treatment stopped, suggesting that benefits are long term.
TALI Train exercises target core attention skills:
There are hundreds of levels in each exercise and each one automatically adapts to the capacity of the child. This ensures that children are working at the right level that challenges them without extending beyond their abilities.
Each of our TALI Train exercises are designed to challenge the attention networks within the brain. The Slider below explains each exercise.
This TALI selection exercise trains children to attend to relevant information whilst filtering out distractions.

In the control exercise, children develop the ability to chose what they attend to and what to ignore.
The inhibition exercise trains children to act in a less impulsive manner.
In this exercise, children develop the ability to maintain their attention on a task over a prolonged period of time.
TALI Train is a cognitive training program designed and evaluated by a team of top neuroscientists and developmental psychologists. TALI Train is proven to improve children’s selection abilities (the ability to select relevant information whilst ignoring irrelevant information) as well as numeracy skills. These findings have been published in several highly regarded international journals. The quality of this research is unique to TALI Train and is unparalleled by other training programs. The proven benefits of TALI Train are:
- Promotes improvements in children’s selective attention
- These improvements in selective attention are sustained – even 3 months after training has stopped
- Promotes improvements in untrained academic skills such as numeracy
